In a story that has been making massive headlines recently, a young man lost his life after he and his girlfriend did a stunt for YouTube that went awry.

19-year old Monalisa Perez shot her 22-year old boyfriend Pedro Ruiz on Monday after he had her fire at him with a .50 caliber handgun from a foot away. He was holding an encyclopedia in front of his chest according to authorities.

The Minnesota couple had been doing many stunts on their YouTube called “La MonaLisa,” and Ruiz was an aspiring YouTube star. They had a child together who witnessed the gun shooting and Perez is pregnant with their second child.

According to court documents, Perez is facing manslaughter charges after the fatal shooting. She was released from jail on $7,000 bail.

Police had said that Ruiz had presented another book that had a bullet hole on one side but no exit hole. He believed the encyclopedia could have stopped the bullet.

“Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever,” Perez wrote Monday on Twitter. “HIS idea not MINE.”

Ruiz died at the scene from the gun shot wound in his chest.

Ruiz died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

“I said, ‘Don’t do it, don’t do it,'” said Claudia Ruiz, the man’s aunt. Ruiz had said, “We want more viewers.”
Norman County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton does not think it was an accident. He said, “I wouldn’t call it an accident.
It was an act that was purposely done,” Thornton told AFP. “An accident would be an accidental discharge,” he said.
