Married With Children Star Reveals Struggle With Drug Addiction

Katey Sagal warmed our hearts as Peggy Bundy on the hit sitcom Married With Children. She also captivated us with her role in The Sons of Anarchy. Little did her fans know that she had a 15 year battle with a drug addiction.

Sagal writes in her new memoir, Grace Notes: My Recollections, which was just released, that Judy Garland and her mother both influence her own drug use. Judy Garland had a well-documented struggle with drug abuse and Sagal’s own mother did.

Sagal recounts that she was friends with Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft during their youth, and that they had bonded over their mothers’ behaviors.

“When I was 12, we lived on the same block as Judy Garland,” Page Six says Sagal writes. “Her daughter Lorna Luft and I became neighborhood buddies. Lorna’s mom had a lot of pills on her bedside table and slept past noon just like my mom.”
She reportedly admits, “We hung tight. And, of course, I thought everyone’s mom took a lot of pills.”

Page Six has reported that Sagal wrote in her memoir that her childhood in Los Angeles le to her 15-year battle with diet pills, cocaine, and alcohol addiction.

Sagal’s memori has more than just her battle with addiction in it. Apparently Kiss member Gene Simmons was her boyfriend. They met while Sagal was a singing waitress in Santa Monica, according to the New York Daily News.

“I thought Gene was really weird,” writes Sagal, reported the Daily News. Sagal said she was once was proposed to by another musician but told Simmons she’d turn it down if he’d marry her instead. He laughed at the proposition, she writes.
