Kidnapped Woman Dies After Calling From Her Car Trunk
In an unfortunate story that has an even more unfortunate ending, 47-year old Rita Maze was kidnapped and found dead in her car trunk on early Wednesday.
Maze had been abducted at a Montana gas station after being hit over the head. It all started in the town of Wolf Creek, where the suspect hit her, then forced her into the trunk and drove her to Spokane, more than 300 miles away.
Maze had her cell phone with her and was able to call law enforcement, which tracked her location using pings from local cell towers. Authorities in Spokane then identified the car using a license plate scanner.
It was too late by then, as her remains were found in the trunk of her Pontiac Grand Prix around 12:30am on Wednesday. The cause of death has not yet been released.
Authorities have asked the community for help in identifying the suspect, who police believe have no connected to Maze.
