Julia Roberts Called Off Wedding To This Star Right Before Ceremony

Back in the 1990’s, Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland was one of Hollywood’s biggest “It” couples. The two met on the set of the movie “Flatliners” in 1990, and were set to marry on the 20th Century Fox’s sound stage. Roberts, who was only 23, called off the wedding only two days before the ceremony.

Today, Sutherland looks back and has said, “We were young, and we were both very much in love, and we had decided that we wanted to get married. But then this other thing kind of took over.” Sutherland was speaking on a recent appearance on The Jess Cagle Interview.

“She was arguably the most famous woman in the world, and this wedding that was supposed to be something between the two of us, became something so big.”

The “24” star believes that Robert’s made the right choice.

“… I think she had courage — it wasn’t what she wanted to do in the end,” the 49-year-old actor told Cagle. “And I think it took a lot of courage, in amongst all that other stuff, to be able to say, ‘I can’t do this.’ “And I’m gonna leave it at that.”
