Woman Wins $10k From Microsoft (MSFT) After Unwanted Upgrade

I certainly wasn’t eager to update my PC to Windows 10, but one woman made a major point about being forced to download it.

Anybody with a Windows 7 or 8 PC has had annoying pop ups come up telling you to upgrade your computer. The pop-up window offering the update may be misleading and cause people to upgrade their operating system without wanting to.

According to the Seattle Times, a woman sued Microsoft after her computer updated to Windows 10 without her authorization. She actually won.

Travel agent Teri Goldstein says she unwittingly downloaded the new operating system only to see her system slow down and crash for days and hurt her business in the process.

Microsoft’s customer support wouldn’t help her when she reached out. She sued and won $10,000 for lost wages and the computer, according to The Seattle Times.

Though Microsoft denied any wrongdoing, they decided not to appeal the judgement.
