Intel (INTC) CEO Says This Is The New Smart Phone

Smart cars. Have you heard of the term yet? Not the eco friendly electric cars, but the cars that rely on the internet and staying connected.

“[If you’re] going for cellphone business you’re shooting behind the puck,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “We are focusing our mobile towards where mobile is moving to.”

Krzanich has confirmed the chip maker’s goal of getting into smart cars and connectivity at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech Conference this week.

He also admitted that it was too late for Intel to go after the already mature phone business.

Smart cars could be the next frontier of the mobile business as they require an insane amount of data for drivers to stay connected.

According to Krzanich, Intel believes that you “can’t build cars without great people from the car industry,” and will continue to work with experts going forward.
