IBM Beat Out Every Other U.S. Company With This In 2016

Patent grants are important for companies and IBM had a killer year in 2016 with them. The company topped the list of U.S. companies to receive patents.

According to Bloomberg, IBM was granted 8,088 patents last year, which was a new record. More than 2,700 of the company’s patents were related to cloud or cognitive computing technology.

IBM Chief Information Officer Bernie Meyerson commented to Bloomberg about the health patents, “What drives the company’s focus on [health care] is the underlying fact that health care is an instance of people drowning in data. … If you don’t have a system that can deal with that data in volume, then the physician has no chance.”
