According to two people familiar with the situation, online retail giant Amazon has had an annual meeting at its headquarters in Seattle to discuss joining the pharmacy business.
The two sources said that it’s not confirmed but the company is bringing on a new general manager to lead the team and figure out a strategy. Amazon is also in talks with experts in the pharmaceutical industry to make sure the company is meeting regulatory requirements.
According to CNBC, a couple of months ago Amazon had hired Mark Lyons from Premera Blue Cross to build an internal pharmacy benefits manager for its employees.
It was also not too long ago that the online retail king started to sell medical supplies and equipment domestically.
Amazon declined to comment but this could be big.
