Toys R Us Will Still Hire Thousands of Holiday Workers

Despite just announcing that it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Toys R Us still says it will hire part time holiday workers.

The leading toy retailer has said it would hire thousands of part-time holiday workers. There will also be “toy demonstrators” hired to unbox and show toys to shoppers.

A spokesperson for the company told FOX Business that the number of works is “unchanged” from 2016. Last year it hired around 40,000 workers. Toys R Us announced that around 10,000 part-time workers will be hired in five key markets that include Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. More than 2,400 workers will be hired as workers at a DHL Supply Chain fulfillment center in Ohio.

Regional hires for this year are roughly 10% lower than the number that was announced in 2016 according to the Bergen Record.

It was earlier this week that Toys R us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. CEO Dave Brandon said the filing would give the company “greater financial flexibility to invest in our business, continue to improve the customer experience in our physical stores and online, and strengthen our competitive position in an increasingly challenging and rapidly changing retail marketplace worldwide.”

The company will operate as “usual” after the filing with its 1,600 store locations. The retailer said there would be no change to payroll or organizational structure.
