Terror Strikes France Again With Over 70 Dead

A horrible tragedy struck France on Thursday night when the nation was celebrating Bastille Day. According to officials, an attacker plowed a truck “loaded” with grenades and other arms into a large crowd in Nice as they watched fire works.

The Promenade des Anglais became an “apocalyptic” scene according to eyewitnesses and the city was put into lockdown.

President of the Nice region, Christian Estrosi said the truck was driven by someone who appeared to have “completely premeditated behavior and that the attacker appears to “have used, while ramming his vehicle, a firearm through the window.”

The reason for the attack remains unclear but the Paris anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office is investigating. Eric Ciotti, a representative in Nice in the French parliament said 77 people were killed and another 65 injured, including 15 critically.

President Obama quickly commented on the event, “On behalf of the American people, I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France, which killed and wounded dozens of innocent citizens. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded.”

Both the U.S. Embassy in Paris and the American consulate in Marseille are working to determine if any United State citizens were injured in the event.
