Spotify Buys Online Music Recording Studio Soundtrap

For an undisclosed sum, Spotify has purchased Soundtrap, an online music and audio recording studio.

Spotify made the announcement on Friday but did not share any details of how much it paid for the company.

Soundtrap is a Swedish online recording studio that allows its subscribers access to an online music studio where they can create music together with other people in real time.

Spotify stated, “Soundtrap’s rapidly growing business is highly aligned with Spotify’s vision of democratising the music ecosystem.”

“Our two teams are culturally, creatively, and strategically a great fit, so Soundtrap — including all our staff — will continue to revolutionize the music-making process for consumers, educators, and students from within the Spotify family,” Soundtrap also said in a separate statement.

Earlier this year Spotify also purchased MightyTV, and Mediachain Labs.
