According to police, the shooting at a Maryland newsroom that killed 5 people on Thursday was a targeted attack.

The police said the assailant’s “attempt was to cause harm.”

Anne Arundel Police Department Bill Krampf said, “He looked for his victims as he walked through the lower level.”

It is not clear yet whether the gunman was targeting the business or knew people who worked there.

Krampft has said that investigators say he “had a history with the newspaper” but nothing has been confirmed.

“This person was prepared today to come in. This person was prepared to shoot people. His intent was to cause harm,” said Krampf.

The gunman is a white man in his late 30’s and is not cooperating with authorities.

Law enforcement identified the alleged shooter by using facial recognition and told ABC News he is Jarrod Ramos of Maryland.

The shooter had even gone as far as to mutilate his fingers to avoid being identified.
