Ryan Lochte Is Banned From Swimming But Not Dancing

Ryan Lochte is an American competitive swimmer and a 12-time Olympic medalist, but he’s been making headlines for different reasons recently.

At the Rio Olympics, Lochte was one among four American swimmers in an armed assault but his fabricated story of the ordeal led to harsh criticism from all over. Brazilian police in an internationally televised news conference had said he had fabricated his description of the episode, damaging Rio’s image.

Speedo was the first to announce that it’s parting ways with Ryan Lochte after Lochte admitted to “overexaggerating” a robbery story in Rio. Shortly after Ralph Lauren and Syneron-Candela, the parent company of Gentle Hair Removal, made the same move.

United States team officials have also banned the swimmer for 10 months and required him to forfeit $100,000 in bonuses. He will miss the 2017 world championships as well.

Lochte is set to premiere on Dancing With The Stars tonight at 8PM ET on ABC.

Cheryl Burke had some nice things to say about the swimmer, “He’s very humble, down to Earth and likes to have fun,” she told us. “Every single day that we work on his dancing, he comes back with a huge improvement the next day, and he really wants to win the mirrorball trophy!”

Burke is excited for America to “see him in a different light and give him a chance.”
