Prosecutors announced on Wednesday that Minnesota police offer Jeronimo Yanez, who shot black man Philando Castile, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds had video taped the tragic killing live on Facebook for the world to see, all while her young daughter was seated in the back of the car.

Jeronimo Yanez shot 32-year-old Castile during a July 6 traffic stop in the St. Paul suburb of Falcon Heights. Yanez shot Castile several times while he reached for his ID after telling Yanez he had a gun permit and was armed.

Second-degree manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter, carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years in Minnesota.
