New Jersey residents may not be too thrilled with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s latest move.

The governor just signed a legislation that will increase the state’s tax by 23 cents which will go toward an eight-year, $16 billion transportation funding program. Christie signed the legislation on Friday, one week after the Democrat-led Legislature passed it.

This is the first time in almost thirty years that the gas tax in New Jersey has been raised and it will leave the state with the sixth-highest gas tax in the nation. In comparison, New Jersey was 49th before.

The new tax is set to go into effect Nov. 1.
