Kellogg Co. Apologizes for Racist Cereal Box

Whether this was intentional or not, many people quickly noticed something that looked off on Kellogg Co.’s Corn Pops cereal boxes.

The illustrated box shows a bunch of characters shopping at the mall, but while all of them are yellow corn pops, there is a brown corn pop who looks like a janitor. Many wondered, why the company made this one corn pop brown?

Marvel Comics writer Saladin Ahmed accused the company on Twitter of “teaching kids racism” with the box’s illustration.

He wrote, “Hey @KelloggsUS why is literally the only brown corn pop on the whole cereal box the janitor? This is teaching kids racism.”

The company responded to his tweet hours later with an apology and said, “Kellogg is committed to diversity and
inclusion. We did not intend to offend — we apologize.”

Kellogg said it would be updating the artwork on the box and it would be in stores soon.

Though some agree with Ahmed, many also didn’t think it was such a big deal.

Ahmed tweeted, “yes its a tiny thing, but when you see your kid staring at this over breakfast and realize millions of other kids are doing the same…”
