It was on Friday that 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities had been indicted for alleged interference in the 2016 election.

According to the indictment, the Russians had bought or obtained fake identification to maintain Paypal accounts as well as online cryptocurrency exchanges. The indictment said they had used fake U.S. driver’s licenses as well as other false identification documents.

Paypal released a statement to CNBC saying that the company is “intensely focused on combatting and preventing the illicit use of our services. We work closely with law enforcement, and did so in this matter, to identify, investigate and stop improper or potentially illegal activity.”
