Hackers Have Stolen Scripts From HBO and Are Demanding Millions

According to an email that was obtained by CNBC, it seems that HBO is in a pickle right now.

The home to hit shows like “West World” and “Game of Thrones” has been hacked. Hackers have stolen TV show scripts from the company according to a source that is familiar with the situation.

According to this source, HBO has offered a “bounty payment” of $250,000 but it is just a “delay tactic.”

Scripts from “Game of Thrones” were leaked online ahead of last Sunday’s episode by a hacking group called “Mr. Smith.” The group claims to have stolen around 1.5 terabytes of data from the company.

The demands are pretty extreme, as they have asked for six months of their salary. They have claimed to make $12 to $15 million stealing intellectual property and blackmailing companies.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the e-mail from HBO reads, “As a show of good faith on our side, we are willing to commit to making a bug bounty payment of $250,000 to you as soon as we can establish the necessary account and acquire bitcoin.”
