Customers May Hate It But Uber Made $449M With This

According to a report from Bloomberg, Uber’s “Safe Rides” fee has amassed $449 million for the company in revenue in just two years.

The fee, which has upset many riders when it was introduced a few years ago, costs $1 per ride and is paid for their safety. In some places the fee is as high as $2.50. It was originally introduced in April 2014 and was a way for Uber to recoup the costs of running its background checks and providing 24/7 support to its riders.

Uber declined to comment.
