Bud Light to Have Bigger Nutrition Labels on Packages

While nutrition labels aren’t really necessary for beer makers, many major companies agreed to voluntarily disclose the nutrition facts on their products by the year 2020.

The first to make the move is Bud Light. Bud Light packages will start to have prominent labels on them next month, showing the calories and ingredients of the beer, as well as the serving of fat, protein, and carbohydrates.

While many brands such as Corona Light and Coors Light have calories and nutrition information disclosed on their bottles or packaging, it’s in small print or hidden at the bottom. Ingredients aren’t even listed.

Bud Light has debuted a large black and white label that lists its four ingredients: water, barley, rice and hops. Underneath that it shows the calories in a 12-ounce bottle or can, which is 110 calories, and other facts.

“We want to be transparent and give people the thing they are used to seeing,” explained Andy Goeler, vice president of marketing for Bud Light.

According to Goeler, younger drinkers want this information. “They have grown up really in tune to ingredients.”
